Services We Offer
Rescue and Rehabilitation:
We will accept all manner of Invertebrates regardless
of condition. We will work to nurse any sick or malnourished creature
back to proper health and endeavor to have the animal available for adoption
with a reliable and experienced caretaker. All animals will be received
and quarantined while we review their health issues and behavior. A
individualized care regimen will be given to each animal until we can prove that
the animal is healthy and can be adopted or where possible in communal inverts,
can be placed with others of its like kind.
All Invertebrates that are considered to be
“Medically Significant” (That is, they contain venom that could potentially
cause a human fatality) will first be checked with the Department of Fish and Wildlife and the
Sherrif’s office to ensure they can be kept within the state of
Adoption:
We
will endeavor to take all inverts as humanly possible, rehabilitate them, and
set them up for adoption with local and knowledgeable care providers.
Where we feel that certain inverts cannot be rehabilitated for proper home pet
care, we will ensure their proper care in our own loving home.
Medically
Significant animals will be remanded to licensed Zoological or Entemological
agencies to ensure their long life and proper care with another educational
agency. Our provision is that these animals be given proper respect and
care, never to be used for medical experimentation or research except in those
agencies researching the properties of certain venoms for cancer or other
medical research. They have shown that proper care of the animal means a
continued supply of venom for medical research and therefore never subjected to
procedures that would permanently harm the animal.
Conservation:
As part of our commitment to conserving the
environment, we are firm believers in endorsing captive breeding programs for
all invertebrates. We fully endorse whenever possible those captive
breeders that also return a portion of their stock to re-populate the native
environments from where the animal originated. We can and will
accept those animals that were wild caught and imported into the Pacific Northwest but
will work with local law enforcement and the Department of Fish and Wildlife
to ensure they are returned to their proper habitat whenever humanly possible.
As well as those Invertebrates that were illegally collected from
within the
Education:
Whenever possible, we will work with the Oregon
Herpetological Society or with other education organizations to provide
demonstrations of the animals under our care. We believe very strongly in
animal preservation and respect of these animals. We understand that many
do not share our passion and love for these animals. However, while we do
understand the fear that comes from these fascinating and different animals,
the first step in alleviating fear of something is to learn more about
them. We are available for classroom demonstrations, church
demonstrations, children’s celebrations, and a host of other events.
Please e-mail for further information and bookings.
No HOT or medically significant invert will be shown
at a demonstration without prior notice and approval by event coordinators.
Local law enforcement will be advised should the nature of the event
warrant it.
